The brain tumors collection includes frozen tissue, CSF and blood samples (serum, plasma, PBMC) from patients with intracranial and medullary tumors.
Samples are collected during patients medical visits in the Neurological Hospital of Lyon Hospital (Pr François Ducray).
It also includes DNA and tumor RNA samples.
Biological samples are associated with the clinical data available in the patients' computerized medical file.
Created in 2006 by Dr. Anne Jouvet, neuropathologist, this collection is now under the responsibility of Dr. David Meyronet and Dr. Alexandre Vasiljevic. Dr. Meyronet is also a researcher at the Cancer Research Center of Lyon (CRCL) and studies the role of axonal guidance molecules and organogenesis in oncology.
This collection has allowed numerous studies on brain tumors characterization, diagnostic or therapeutic biomarkers approach for a better medical care of these tumors.

Lung cancer is one of the most common and serious types of cancer. There are 2 main types: small-cell and non-small-cell lung cancer. The three main areas of research are causes, diagnostics, and treatments.
Each year basic research discovers new biomarkers (genes and proteins involved in cancer), and genetic anomalies can now be detected and enable the development of a new form of treatment called targeted therapy. Biomarkers and therapeutic targets are currently the subject of many studies.
The lung cancer collection consists of blood samples collected consecutively throughout patient care (at diagnosis, after surgery, after the first relapse, when metastases appear, and during bone progression). The collection contains samples of serum, plasma, and DNA which are cryopreserved ensuring optimal storage conditions (French biobank certification: NF S 96-900), and linked to tumor anatomopathological data.
This collection, that was started in 2013, is under the responsibility of Professor Nicolas Girard, who is a lung specialist in the pulmonology and neglected diseases department of the Louis Pradel Cardiology Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon) and Doctor Cyrille Confavreux, who is a rheumatologist in the rheumatology and bone diseases department of the Edouard Herriot Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon).
Doctor Confavreux is also part of the INSERM physiopathology, diagnosis and bone disease research unit (UMR INSERM 1033) and a member of the bone, cancer and metastases team.

Pituitary tumor, frequently considered as benign tumors developing in the pituitary gland, generate an increasing interest for surgical teams, fundamental researchers and pharmacologists in order to understand factors and mechanisms behind tumors growth and develop new molecules able to inhibit selective mechanisms of hormone synthesis.
The collection “Pituitary tumor” stores tumoral tissue samples collected during surgical resection from patients with this pathology. Samples are associated with many clinical data (PITUICARE-Lyon, CNIL records 16-021, and clinicaltrials.org NCT02854228).
This collection, started in 2010, is under the responsibility of Professor Gerald RAVEROT, endocrinologist in the Endocrinology and Diabetes care department A, located in Louis Pradel Cardiologic Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon) and researcher in UMR INSERM 1052 team “Signalling, metabolism and tumor progression”.

Thymoma is a tumor originating from the epithelial cells of the thymus (this organ is located in the anterior mediastinum, behind the sternum). Thymoma is often associated with myasthenia or other autoimmune diseases.
Research teams are studying new methods which could improve thymoma patient care by developing new, less invasive, surgical techniques or new therapies that are more effective.

Myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a “heart attack”, is the death of a part of heart muscle due to a coronary blood flow interruption. MI is caused by obstruction of the coronary artery which delivers oxygen to the heart muscle. MI may cause difficulties in cardiac muscle contraction and subsequent heart failure.
The “Myocardial Infarction“ samples collection was created in 2010 by Professor Michel OVIZE, head of Cardiology department in the Louis Pradel Cardiologic Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon) and Director of Inserm U1060 “Cardioprotection” research team (CarMen laboratory, research in Cardiovascular, Metabolism, Diabetology and Nutrition). The team studies cell death mechanisms occurring during ischemia and reperfusion, focusing on mitochondrial permeability transition. This phenomenon is playing a major role in cellular death during reperfusion. New treatments are tested including the impact of ischemic or pharmacological post conditioning.
The MI collection is part of the RHU project (University Hospital Medical Research) “MARVELOUS” funded by ANR in 2016 and is aiming to find new biomarkers of ischemic cerebral and acute myocardial infarction patient’s prognosis. By developing a new MR imaging system, the MARVELOUS project could allow a more precise diagnosis and the quantification of prognostic markers, essential for the selection of patients who might be able to receive targeted therapies. MARVELOUS is led by the FHU (University Hospital Federation) of Lyon IRIS.
Samples stored in the « MI» collection are collected before cardiac reperfusion and during patients follow up. Biological samples (serum, plasma, PBMC and DNA) are cryopreserved assuring optimal conditions (French biobanks norm: NF S96-900) and associated with clinical and imaging data from the MARVELOUS database.

The dysimmune neuropathies are well studied and identified, although the autoantigens involved and the precise mechanisms leading to lesions of the peripheral nerves are incompletely known. However, the wide variety of causes and forms makes diagnoses and treatments still difficult. Clinical electrophysiological criteria, and if necessary immunochemical and neuropathological, allow to individualize the different forms of acute polyradiculoneuropathies, (Guillain-Barré syndrome), or chronic (IPDC).
This collection "neuropathies dysummunes" was created in 2014 (Dr. Christophe VIAL, Dr. Françoise BOUHOUR, neurologists in the ENMG service and neuromuscular diseases at the Pierre Wertheimer Neurological Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon).

Epilepsy is a serious neurological disease taking many forms and occurring through seizures. Epilepsy is characterized by the occurrence of seizures that correspond to the brutal and synchronous activation of a large number of cerebral neurons. There are many forms of epilepsy with great variability of symptoms during seizures. About one-third of patients suffer from seizures despite taking antiepileptic drugs. In some of them, it is possible to offer surgical management to remove the area of the brain responsible for seizures.
The Epilepsy collection was created in 2002 by Professor François Mauguière and is now under the responsibility of Professor Sylvain Rheims, head of the Department of Functional Neurology and Epileptology at the Pierre Wertheimer Neurological Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon) and co-head of the INSERM "TIGER: Translational and Integrative Epilepsy Research" team (CRNL laboratory: Lyon Neuroscience Research Center, INSERM U1028 / CNRS UMR 5292). This collection corresponds to the resection parts resulting from epilepsy surgery and / or blood samples taken from patients engaged in a pre-surgical assessment of epilepsy.
The main objectives of the research carried out from this collection are to study the pathophysiology of epilepsy and to improve treatments for 2 main causes of comorbidity and / or epileptic complications (cognitive dysfunction in children with epilepsy - Sudden and unexplained death in epilepsy, SUDEP).

Neurodegenerative diseases are a group of progressive pathologies related to metabolic dysfunction in nerve tissue, leading to neuronal death and destruction of the nervous system.
The "PDM" collection focuses on neurological degeneration affecting movement leading to major motor and cognitive disorders.
The main pathologies present in this collection are Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, supranuclear palsy or Lewy body dementia.
The "Neurodegenerative Pathologies of Motor Skills" collection was created in 2005 by Professor Emmanuel BROUSSOLLE, neurologist in the Department of Neurology - Movement Disorders and Neuromuscular Pathologies at the Pierre Wertheimer Neurological Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon). Professor BROUSSOLLE is also a researcher in the "Physiopathology of the basal ganglia" team at the Cognitive Neuroscience Center of Lyon (CNC laboratory, CNRS UMR 5229 unit). The research conducted by this team aims to understand the pathophysiology of the basal ganglia through several clinical models including Parkinson's disease.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the young subject that causes destruction of the central nervous system's myelin sheath (brain, spinal cord and optic nerves), and often the onset of axonal degeneration. MS is the leading cause of severe non-traumatic disability in the thirties. Around 80,000 people are affected in France (about 1 in 1,000 people). The etiology of MS involves environmental and genetic factors in a non-exclusive manner. However, no element from the environment, including viral, is formally identified today and the screening of the genome has not yet made it possible to highlight a specific region associated with the susceptibility of the disease.
Similarly, while therapies are currently multiplying, there is currently no diagnostic or prognostic biological marker for MS.
The collection "Multiple Sclerosis" was created in 1999 by Professor Christian Confavreux and is currently under the responsibility of Dr. Romain Marignier, neurologist in the department of Neurology - multiple sclerosis, myelin pathologies and neuroinflammation at the Neurological Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon). This service also participates in the national cohort on OFSEP multiple sclerosis. Dr. Marignier is also a researcher in the "Fluids and Barriers of the Central Nervous System" team of the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL laboratory, INSERM U1028, CNRS UMR 5229). The research conducted by this team aims to explore the involvement of blood-brain, blood-CSF and CSF circulation in the pathophysiology and pharmacology of central nervous system disorders in adults and children. Within this team, Dr. MARIGNIER is leading research on Devic's disease, which is close to MS.
The collection consists of samples of serum, plasma, CSF, PBMC and DNA collected during the medical follow-up of the patients, and kept under optimum conditions (standard NF S96-900). The samples are associated with clinical, biological and imaging data (EDMUS software).

Myasthenia is a chronic neuromuscular disease, of autoimmune origin, characterized by muscle insufficiency in the effort. Its manifestations range from simple oculopalpebral involvement to a picture of quadriplegia with respiratory involvement and intermediate stages of muscle fatigue. Neurocognitive disorders include several neurodegenerative pathologies; the most common is Alzheimer's disease but also Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia or cerebrovascular disease may be diagnosed.
The collection “Neurocognitive disorders” was created in 2001 by Professor Pierre KROLAK-SALMON, head of the Department of Aging Medicine at the Charpennes Hospital, head of the Clinical Research Center : aging brain fragility, responsible for the cohort MEMORA, database for the follow-up of the patients from the different memory consultations of Lyon Clinical and Researche Memory Center and member of the INSERM DYCOG team - Brain Dynamics and Cognition (Lyon Neuroscience Research Center, INSERM U1048 / CNRS UMR 5292).
The Neurocognitive disorders collection contains samples of serum, plasma, CSF, PBMC and DNA which are cryopreserved ensuring optimal storage conditions (French biobanks certification: NF S 96-900) and associated with clinical data from the MEMORA database. This database will be sooner enlarged to the Memory Centers of region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes to become Mem-AURA.

Devic Acute Neuro-optico-myelitis (NOMAD) is an inflammatory demyelinating condition of the central nervous system (CNS) that affects almost exclusively the spinal cord and the optic nerves. Since the first description by Eugene Devic in 1894, this rare disease has long been considered a particular form of multiple sclerosis (MS). The discovery of the presence of serum autoantibodies directed against aquaporin 4, then against MOG (Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein) more recently, makes it a humoral mediated autoimmune pathology. Since then, research has shown clinical, epidemiological, immunological, pathological and therapeutic differences between MS and NOMAD.
Acute neuro-optico-myelitis of Devic" collection was created in 2010 by Dr. Romain MARIGNIER, neurologist in the department of Neurology - multiple sclerosis, myelin pathologies and neuroinflammation at the Pierre Wertheimer Neurological Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon). Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes and autoimmune encephalitis are rare diseases. They depend on an autoimmune process involving antibodies targeting in the nervous system either intracellular antigens (HU, CV2, Ma2, GAD, ..) or membrane antigens (NMDAr, LGI1, CAPR2, AMPAr, GABAb , mGluR5, ..). Often, the appearance of a cancer (or its recurrence) is at the origin of this immune activation. Sometimes, no tumor cause is found.
These neurological syndromes are of recent discovery and all the neurologically responsible antibodies are not yet known. In the context of known antibodies, some seem to have an antitumor action. These diseases represent an excellent model of neuroimmune interaction.
The SNP neurobiotec collection stores sera and CSFs of patients with paraneoplastic neurological syndrome or autoimmune encephalitis.

Stroke is most often associated with cerebral artery occlusion (ischemia 85% of cases) or arterial rupture (hemorrhage).
The collection "Cerebral Vascular Accident" was created in 2016 by Professor Norbert Nighoghossian, head of the Department of Vascular Neurology at the Pierre Wertheimer Neurological Hospital of the Eastern Hospital Group (Hospices Civils de Lyon) and head of the "Brain Imaging" team. »(CREATIS laboratory: Center for Research in Acquisition and Treatment of Health Image , INSERM U1206/CNRS UMR 5220).
This collection was set up to identify new biomarkers and imaging of lesion severity and therapeutic response. The "AVC" collection also makes it possible to build a clinical database composed of a biological component and an imaging component.
The collection contains samples of serum, plasma, PBMC and DNA taken iteratively after admission to a care service following a stroke, then during the medical follow-up of the patients (admission sample, at 6 o'clock at 24h, at 48h, and followed at 3 months).

Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases include several rare tumors that develop in the uterus and originate in the cells that form the placenta during pregnancy. Hydatidiform moles are considered as benign pre-tumoral states, while invasive moles, gestational choriocarcinomas, placental site trophoblastic tumors and epithelioid trophoblastic tumors are invasive states.
The Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases collection was created in 2014 by Dr. Pierre-Adrien BOLZE, gynecologist obstetrician in the gynecology-obstetrics department at the Lyon-Sud Hospital Center as well as in the French Reference Center for Trophoblastic Diseases (Hospices Civils de Lyon ). The main areas of research are the understanding of the pathophysiology of gestational trophoblastic diseases, the development of diagnostic tools and the search for new therapeutics.

This collection was created in 2005 by Pr Vincent Desportes, head of the neuropediatrics department, of the Hospital Femme Mère Enfant (HFME), head of the Apprenticeship and Communication team at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and also coordinator of the national reference center Rare diseases labeled in 2005: intellectual disabilities of rare cause: Fragile X and other mental retardation related to the X chromosome".

The collection "Rare Pulmonary Diseases" includes samples of patients suffering from different types of rare pulmonary diseases. These include idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema syndrome, non-specific interstitial pneumonia, other interstitial lung diseases, and lymphangioleiomyomatosis.
The "Rare Pulmonary Diseases" collection was created in 2010 by Professor Vincent COTTIN, a practitioner in the pulmonology department of the Louis Pradel Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon) and coordinator of the national reference center for rare pulmonary diseases. Professor COTTIN is also coordinator of several studies such as:
- HYPID (Pulmonary Hypertension in Interstitial Lung Disease), ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02799771, whose objective is to determine the predictors of mortality in a cohort of patients with pulmonary hypertension associated with diffuse interstitial lung disease.

Schizophrenia is a psychiatric illness characterized by a set of highly variable symptoms: the most impressive are delusions and hallucinations, but the most disabling are social withdrawal and cognitive difficulties.
The diagnosis is essentially based on long-term clinical observation, the objectives of scientific research are therefore to succeed in finding biomarkers linked to this disease.
The "Schizophrenia" collection was created in 2003 by Professor Thierry D'Amato, pole leader in adult psychiatry at “Le Vinatier” hospital.

Achalasia is a primary motor disorder of the esophagus whose pathogenesis is still largely unknown. Genetic, infectious, neurodegenerative and autoimmune mechanisms have all been suggested as possible etiological factors. It has been suggested that achalasia develops in genetic predisposed individuals, which is supported by familial onset of idiopathic achalasia, association with other genetic diseases, and identification of different genes specific to disease.
The "Achalasie" collection was created in 2013 by Dr. Sabine Roman, gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Edouard Herriot Hospital. This collection aims to identify the genetic variants involved in achalasia.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is an inherited autosomal dominant disorder that affects connective tissue and there are different presentations of this disease. The diagnosis is essentially clinical. The hypermobile form is characterized in particular by generalized hypermobility of the joint, hyperextensible skin, recurrent joint dislocations and chronic pain of the limb joints.
The establishment of this collection in 2016 by Dr. Sophie Dupuis Giraud of the Genetics Department of the Mother and Child Hospital (HFME) aims to collaborate with other research teams to identify the gene involved in hypermobile forms of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
